"Great art depends upon a vivid awareness of death, connection with the nation's soil and acknowledgement of the limitations of reason" - Federico Garcia Lorca

For inquiring minds: Federico García Lorca (June 5th, 1898 - August 19, 1936 ) was a Spanish poet and dramatist, also remembered as a painter, pianist, and composer. He lived in Granada, Spain. He was a member of the "Generation of '27" an influential group of poets in Spanish literary circles from 1923-1927 with a desire for the Avante Garde art forms. He was close friends with Luis Banuel (known as the father of cinematic surrealism ) and Salvador Dali (Spanish surrealist painter) . He was killed by Nationalist partisans at the age of 38 at the at the start of the Spanish Civil War.

Here is one of his paintings.

...and a poem

Floating Bridges

Oh what a crush of People
Invisible, reborn
Make their way to into this garden
For their eternal rest

Every step we take on earth
Brings us to a new world
Every foot supported
On a floating bridge

I know there is no straight road
No straight road in this world
Only a giant labyrinth
Of intersecting crossroads

And steadily our feet
Keep walking and creating
Like enormous fans
These roads in embryo

Oh garden of white
Oh garden of all I am not
All I could
And should have been

I know there is no straight road
No straight road in this world
Only a giant labyrinth
Of intersecting crossroads

Comprendo que no existe
El camino derecho
Solo un gran labertino
De encrucijadas multiples

Thanks everyone for your visits and kind words!

Wonderful work - composition is vivid, complex and works so well with subject. The image is just touching and has so much soul. This King must be smiling up there - I would be.

I admire how you use reds.
